Busy September this year

Next month will be a busy month for all the Club players in SIM Soccer Club. As we know, Singapore University Games (SUniG) will be starting next week Tuesday with SIM vs SIT as the opening match. There are also other games still going on in Singapore. For example, S-League matches, Singapore Cup, League Cup, National Football League (NFL), FA Cup and also National team oversea friendly match. All our Club players are involve in almost all the competitions held in Singapore and together with their studies and work, SIM Soccer hope that they are able to cope well with everything.

Zulfadli Zainal (Nickname: Placko) has been taking oversea degree course in SIM University and at the same time, he is playing for S-League team, Warriors FC. Recently he has called-up to the National team to replaced his injured team mate, Shaiful Esah. Nevertheless Placko still want to play for SIM team as he believe is time to bring glory back to this talented team.

"I will try my best to help SIM in this upcoming SUniG and at the same time experience a bit of the University football. This will be a whole new experience for me as I heard University teams are very hardworking and strong in their mind." - Zulfadli Zainal

Patrick Paran (Nickname: Crazy Horse) has been with us for quite some time and also by playing for us, he got scout to go S-League team, Tanjong Pagar United FC. Patrick is also a high profile goal machine in ESPZEN Sunday football league when he played for Gabrielite Remix FC, scoring a total of 111 goals. Now he is playing for S-League team, Balestier Khalsa FC as a striker.

"I love to play for SIM because there are many talented individual in the team, past few years, SIM has been very unlucky because we let in silly goals, and our main players are injured. Let's hope this year we can stay fit and healthy and win back what we deserve!" - Patrick

Yasir Hanapi (Nickname: Road Runner) is our first year student taking degree course in SIM University. He is the first batch of LionXII players and also won 2 bronze medal with Singapore Under-23 Southease Asian Games team. This year he is back with S-League team, Geylang International FC.

"Is my first year, and I am glad that SIM want me to play for them. I will do my best to help them to achieve what they want together with the whole team." - Yasir Hanapi
Ang Zhiwei (Nickname: Magician) is also a first year student taking oversea bachelor degree course in SIM University. He is one of the hot prospect during his national youth days and he went on to play for big clubs like Warriors FC and Geylang International FC. Now, he is playing for S-League team, Woodlands Wellington FC and has never miss a single match for them.

"I never been to their training due to club commitment but I played one friendly game for them against Temesak Poly, I can say those new boys are good but just lack of experience. I know how the standard like in SUniG because I came to watch my friends play last year, I can say that SIM is strong in every department and is up to us whether we want to win it or not." - Ang Zhiwei

Other club players who are playing for us in upcoming SUniG are our NFL players. There are 3 playing for Singapore Cricket Club (SCC): Ex-Nike 'The Chance' regional finalist, Sim Li Ming, Ex-Hougang United FC player, Raymond Kwa and Ex-Woodlands Wellington FC defender, Vincent Lee.

3 of them recently just helped SCC went through to the FA Cup Quarter Final by winning Prison Sports & Rec Club 1-0.

"Next month will be mad busy for us but I believe we can cope. We will stay discipline and focus on winning the matches for SIM." - Raymond Kwa

Our Vice-President, Phua Yih Kiat, is another club player playing in the NFL together with Nicholas Khoo and Ronald Lee. They play for Katong FC and is now currently 2nd place with 2 games in hand in NFL Division 2. Recently they just helped Katong FC qualify for the FA Cup Quarter Final by beating Division 1 title contender, Police SA 3-1.

"I really hope all of us are able to do well in everything especially in our studies. Next month some of us need to submit our assignments and do presentation, not forgetting our club games and work. Is really not easy but we believe we can do well in SUniG. PA BUAY TOH SIM!" - Kiat

SIM's new boys lost to NFA U-17

  0-2

National Football Association (NFA) Under-17: Remember this team. It became the first team to win SIM University soccer team in the Dilwant Singh SIM University era. There is no club or experience players, like Kiat, Ang Zhiwei, Raymond kwa or Yasir Hanapi, playing in this match. It is a friendly match to test out those players who are still undergoing the selection.

"It wasn't a brilliant result. But I am more pleased with the way they kept going. I gave all the trial-list players an opportunity to let them know how SUniG or IVP match standard will be. It was certainly a good fitness workout." - Coach Dilwant Singh.

When Coach Dilwant Singh was asked if the defeat was a bad sign rather than a good one, "I hope not - If I am going to lose any games I am happy to lose these ones, that is for sure," he said.

In this match, there are a number of impressive players like Sulaiman who scored hat-trick in the previous friendly against TP, and Eason Chen who is part of SIM team last season but never given a chance to play. New players like Xiang, Nicholas Leong and Faizal, are good too.

"These new players did well for us, he gave us something which we need and in this match we short of forwards so I believe the future of SIM Soccer is bright as these new boys will grow stronger and stronger." - Melvin Tan (President of SIM Soccer Club).

"It's not one we desperately needed to win but it is a game we needed to get prepared for. In relative terms it's not of the biggest importance. I am happy that SIM Soccer team has 2 new keepers who performed very well during the match. Ignatius Lim has been great during the trials and I am glad that he is able to play well in a match. And we have to welcome back Jason Wong. Seems like before the tournament starts, we will have a competition within the team which is fighting for the first 11 spots." - Kiat (Vice-President of SIM Soccer Club).

First victory for new coach Dilwant Singh

        4 - 0

It's always interesting to pay attention to the pre-seasons of those teams under new coaches. SIM University started their first pre-season friendly against recent IVP Champion, Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and they whacked the hell out of the champion. New boy, Sulaiman, started to show how good he is in SIM's first match of pre-season by scoring a hat-trick against TP. Ang Zhiwei also celebrated his first goal under SIM University's jersey with a classy angel shot. However, man of the match does not become to these two scorers as it belongs to our stand-in captain for this match, Phua Yih Kiat, who performed superb to keep a clean sheet for his team. Kiat converted from defender to goalkeeper as the team's keepers are unavailable due to injuries and study.

"I am still not satisfy with the team performance, as I feel that this team has more to show. I want them to keep it as simple as possible and play a beautiful game. Nevertheless those new boys played well. I am quite impressed with Kiat because is his first time playing goalkeeper so now he give me an option to consider him as our 3rd-choice goalkeeper or even 1st choice." - Coach Dilwant Singh.

"Whole team played well, except a few new boys who are inexperience or not use to our football style. I feel that Sulaiman played very well and could be the star of our team. Hope next few matches our club players can come down and gel with the new boys. I think coach will have a hard time choosing his main team players." - Melvin Tan (President of SIM Soccer Club).

"I have no choice but to play keeper, but nevertheless is a good experience for me and my 'hate-to-lose' attitude help the team keep a clean sheet. If coach really want me to play keeper, I will play as long as it benefits the team. I just want to win the both SUniG and IVP, and I believe we can. PA BUAY TOH SIM!" - Kiat (Vice-President of SIM Soccer Club).

The team has had an almost perfect match in term of getting result. But one could have expected more out of the new boys, Faizal Taher and AJ , two players that will have huge responsibility in SIM's potential success this season.

A Brand New Style Of Football

SIM University Soccer team new coach, Dilwant Singh, is calibrating his training to produce a brand new style of football as one that can see his team play at a very high tempo, pressing hard to recover possession and attacking in swarms. This style of football is similar to tactical trends in Europe like top sides, Bayern Munich and Barcelona, which play such beautiful and winning football. But in order to play this style of football, SIM Soccer team needs to be extremely fit and strong.

"We want to improve our style of play and I want the players to keep pressing for the ball. This requires plenty of physical strength and fitness. Of course, I hope they can follow the example of Spain and Bayern Munich. The main players in the team believe in this path which I want them to take." - Dilwant Singh (Head Coach of SIM Soccer team).

Last week SIM Soccer team's training has made most of the trial list players and ex-SIM team players suffered. Coach Dilwant Singh's emphasis on fitness has turned the spotlight on Kiat (Vice-President of SIM Soccer Club) and a few other last season SIM team players. Coach Dilwant Singh paid no heed to the players' huffing and puffing, shouting at them when they run box to box as the team working on their fitness.

"This training is a HELL as it is damn tiring but I don't mind them at all. I want to play for SIM Soccer team so I have to adapt to the new coach's style of play. In fact, it is better for me as I can gain back my fitness and match those club players who are joining us." - Kiat (Vice-President of SIM Soccer Club).

While the coach admits his side are still ''a work in progress'', he insists his team can go as far as winning the championship.

"I am here to win championship with the team, not here to play and have fun with them. I expect a 100% commitment or more from them and whoever can't take my training will leave the team. Next 2 weeks, club players will come in and fight for their place so SIM training will be more and more intense and interesting to watch." - Dilwant Singh (Head Coach of SIM Soccer team).

NEXT TRAINING - TUESDAY (6th August 2013) 630pm @ Singapore Khalsa Association

Zulfadli Zainal Called-Up to Singapore National team!

SIM University student, Zulfadli Zainal Abidin, has called up to Singapore National team to replace his fellow Warriors FC team mate, Shaiful Esah, who is out due to a torn meniscus. Zulfadli is famous for his strength and no nonsense tackles on the field. He also has fine pace and powerful shot. Zulfadli is surprised to learn of the late call-up, but this is the moment he had been patiently waiting for.

"My team are not doing well in the S-League, but I have been patient and working hard. I believe in letting my feet do the talking, and I would love to get the chance to justify this call-up by having a good game against Oman." - Zulfadli Zainal

"This is a good news for all of us in the team! We have a National player in the team! I am happy for Zul as I think he fully deserve this call-up to the National team. ALL THE BEST ZUL!" - Melvin Tan (President of SIM Soccer Club).

"At last he got call-up! Bloody hell, I don't know what take the head coach so long to notice a talent like him. He fully deserve it. He has strength, speed and a strong fighting spirit, really solid player. I won't be surprise if he starts straight away in the first eleven. Good Luck to him!" - Kiat (Vice-President of SIM Soccer Club).

GOOD LUCK AND ALL THE BEST PLACKO!

SIM Soccer team Classy Defender, Vincent Lee, is out for a month.

SIM Soccer team classy right-back, Vincent Lee, has dislocated his right shoulder during a friendly match with his current National Football League (NFL) Division 1 team, Singapore Cricket Club (SCC). He will be out for a month and might miss out in his final school competition, Singapore University Games (SUniG), for SIM Soccer team.

"I believe he will be back soon. Vincent is a strong and hardworking player, he won't let this spoil his last school competition. Let's wait and see what the doctor says and hope he has a speedy recovery." - Melvin Tan (President of SIM Soccer Club)

"I am not worry about him. Know him since secondary school, whenever he wants something, he will work hard to get it. I know he want to win a championship with SIM University so this is nothing to him. He will be back even stronger, trust me. PA BUAY TOH LA VINNIE!" - Kiat (Vice-President of SIM Soccer Club)
