SIM University were unexpectedly magnificent, won their first opening match of the season with a 4-0 win over SIT at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Sports & Recreation Centre. Ang Zhiwei's striking genius was made to measure and Sulaiman has the makings of a mature centre forward. First match of the match went a bit shaky for SIM team as players like Nicholas Khoo and Eason Chen are trying to adapt to their new positions together with new boys such as Sulaiman and Rusydi who are adapting to the pressure of the game. Second half when SIM team click, they reach a rhythm that few can touch.

On paper against SIT, SIM team's line-up was creaky, pedestrian, conservative and vulnerable because missing of club players like Zulfadli Zainal, Patrick Paran, Yasir Hanapi and Sim Li Ming. But, to stress a glaringly obvious point familiar to millions, this is SIM Soccer team. When these 11 men come together, they somehow conjure alchemy beyond their means, producing magic with a smallish box of tricks. Unexpectly, Sulaiman and Zhiwei strike partnership rose the occasion - Zhiwei's lofted passes in the game took the breath away and Sulaiman lives in the occasion. Sulaiman's hat-trick is his reward for the professionalism that is not being emulated throughout the strikers' camp.

"These 2 players (Zhiwei & Sulaiman) are real solid. Zhiwei has been the star of the match, that's explain why he has not been missing a single S-league match for woodlands and not forgetting Sulaiman who I think is the key player of the tournament. I really impress with him. He has score a total of 6 goals for us in just 3 matches since joining. I believe more will come from him." - Melvin Tan (President of SIM Soccer Club).

"Great performance from the team, really happy to see all the new boys playing well in the match. Thank God, now we have found ourselves a real solid goalkeeper, Ignatius Lim and a goal machine, Sulaiman. Both of them are really good enough to play in club level. Now we got to move on as we believe next 2 matches against NUS and NTU will be the real test for us." - Kiat (Vice-President of SIM Soccer Club).

Busy September this year

Next month will be a busy month for all the Club players in SIM Soccer Club. As we know, Singapore University Games (SUniG) will be starting next week Tuesday with SIM vs SIT as the opening match. There are also other games still going on in Singapore. For example, S-League matches, Singapore Cup, League Cup, National Football League (NFL), FA Cup and also National team oversea friendly match. All our Club players are involve in almost all the competitions held in Singapore and together with their studies and work, SIM Soccer hope that they are able to cope well with everything.

Zulfadli Zainal (Nickname: Placko) has been taking oversea degree course in SIM University and at the same time, he is playing for S-League team, Warriors FC. Recently he has called-up to the National team to replaced his injured team mate, Shaiful Esah. Nevertheless Placko still want to play for SIM team as he believe is time to bring glory back to this talented team.

"I will try my best to help SIM in this upcoming SUniG and at the same time experience a bit of the University football. This will be a whole new experience for me as I heard University teams are very hardworking and strong in their mind." - Zulfadli Zainal

Patrick Paran (Nickname: Crazy Horse) has been with us for quite some time and also by playing for us, he got scout to go S-League team, Tanjong Pagar United FC. Patrick is also a high profile goal machine in ESPZEN Sunday football league when he played for Gabrielite Remix FC, scoring a total of 111 goals. Now he is playing for S-League team, Balestier Khalsa FC as a striker.

"I love to play for SIM because there are many talented individual in the team, past few years, SIM has been very unlucky because we let in silly goals, and our main players are injured. Let's hope this year we can stay fit and healthy and win back what we deserve!" - Patrick

Yasir Hanapi (Nickname: Road Runner) is our first year student taking degree course in SIM University. He is the first batch of LionXII players and also won 2 bronze medal with Singapore Under-23 Southease Asian Games team. This year he is back with S-League team, Geylang International FC.

"Is my first year, and I am glad that SIM want me to play for them. I will do my best to help them to achieve what they want together with the whole team." - Yasir Hanapi
Ang Zhiwei (Nickname: Magician) is also a first year student taking oversea bachelor degree course in SIM University. He is one of the hot prospect during his national youth days and he went on to play for big clubs like Warriors FC and Geylang International FC. Now, he is playing for S-League team, Woodlands Wellington FC and has never miss a single match for them.

"I never been to their training due to club commitment but I played one friendly game for them against Temesak Poly, I can say those new boys are good but just lack of experience. I know how the standard like in SUniG because I came to watch my friends play last year, I can say that SIM is strong in every department and is up to us whether we want to win it or not." - Ang Zhiwei

Other club players who are playing for us in upcoming SUniG are our NFL players. There are 3 playing for Singapore Cricket Club (SCC): Ex-Nike 'The Chance' regional finalist, Sim Li Ming, Ex-Hougang United FC player, Raymond Kwa and Ex-Woodlands Wellington FC defender, Vincent Lee.

3 of them recently just helped SCC went through to the FA Cup Quarter Final by winning Prison Sports & Rec Club 1-0.

"Next month will be mad busy for us but I believe we can cope. We will stay discipline and focus on winning the matches for SIM." - Raymond Kwa

Our Vice-President, Phua Yih Kiat, is another club player playing in the NFL together with Nicholas Khoo and Ronald Lee. They play for Katong FC and is now currently 2nd place with 2 games in hand in NFL Division 2. Recently they just helped Katong FC qualify for the FA Cup Quarter Final by beating Division 1 title contender, Police SA 3-1.

"I really hope all of us are able to do well in everything especially in our studies. Next month some of us need to submit our assignments and do presentation, not forgetting our club games and work. Is really not easy but we believe we can do well in SUniG. PA BUAY TOH SIM!" - Kiat
