SIM University Sports Leaders' Meeting at Resort World Sentosa

Every year before the new season kicks off, Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) University will have a Sports Leaders' Meeting. This meeting is part of the Student Life effort to provide our Sports leaders with an edge to lead and build strong bonds within SIM Sports community. Topics covered in this meeting are the Safety guidelines, Social media, Finance and Admin Club matters.

This year, Melvin and Kiat represents the Soccer Club as they are the president and vice-president.

SIM CCA Recruitment starts on 22 - 24 July 2013 (Monday - Wednesday).

New Vice President of SIM Soccer Club, Phua Yih Kiat

Phua Yih Kiat started his football career with Sembawang Ranger FC which he won COE Cup and Youth League 1st runner-up with the team. After his return from a month long training stint in Thailand with Chonburi FC, Kiat came back to lead the Prime League (Under-23) of Balestier Khalsa FC where he took on the role as a Captain for 2 years. During his football journey, Kiat also captained for his schools and even National Football League (NFL) team, SAFSA.

Kiat said: ''The post of the SIM Soccer Club's Vice-President is always a challenging one for any player - more so in a team like SIM where there are so many star players around.''

''I am deeply honoured to have been appointed from a pool of candidates. While I recognize that the task will not be easy, I am confident and believe that my experience in the game will be an asset to SIM's football. I urge everyone to support us and work together as a team as we strive to optimize our resources and maximize our success. Kiat is currently in his final year pursuing Bachelor Degree in Business (Management) from RMIT University.

SIM Soccer Club appoints Melvin Tan as their new club president

Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) Soccer Club has announced the appointment of Melvin Tan as their new club president for 2013/14. The 25-year-old brave soldier takes over the role from Muhd Khairil, who want to step down to focus more on his Bachelor Degree course from University of London (UOL).

"I am delighted and proud to have been appointed as the club president for SIM and am really looking forward to the challenge ahead," Melvin told the club's website (http://simsoccerclub.blogspot.sg).

Melvin Tan has played for Tanjong Pagar United FC in 2005 and Sengkang Punggol FC (now, Hougang United FC) in 2006. But he decided to quit club football in the following year to concentrate on his studies and school team. Melvin smart decision pay off as he won Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) twice with Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) in 2007 and 2008. Till now he has no regret about leaving the club football.

Now, Melvin is hoping to win the IVP again, as well as Singapore University Games (SUniG) with SIM Soccer team, which has not win a single trophy since 2008.

Melvin Tan is a full-time airborne trained 1st Sergeant in Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Commando Unit and is currently second year student taking Bachelor Degree in Mathematics from SIM University.

New Season 2013/14

While it was still early in the pre-season, it seems like SIM Football team players are already seriously preparing themselves for upcoming season as they do not want a repeat of last season where they did not win anything in University games and IVP. Most of the current players are training hard in other clubs like Warriors FC, Geylang International FC, Singapore Cricket Club, etc.

This season, SIM Football team have a few S-League club players as the main backbone of the team. They are 'Hardman' Fabian Kwok of Geylang International FC, 'Talented' Zulfadli Zainal of Warriors FC, 'Speedy' Patrick Paran of Balestier Khalsa FC, and our most gifted defender, Shahir Hamzah of Hougang United FC. They will be available for IVP and maybe University games.

Other players in the team also went to join other clubs to brush up their skills and fitness. Former Woodlands Wellington FC player, Vincent Lee Liang Hui, and Former Hougang United FC player, Raymond Kwa have join our former SIM president and team captain, Muhd Khairil in NFL Division one team, Singapore Cricket Club. 2013 IVP regular starters, Nicholas Khoo and Joey Yup, has joined NFL Division two team, Katong FC, together with our newly appointed Vice President, Phua Yih Kiat.

SIM Club is waiting to see more talented and passionate players joining the team for this upcoming season. With open house and trials coming in this upcoming July, we would like to see new players coming in and fight for a spot in the University Games in Aug and IVP 2014.

Woodlands Wellington FC Speedy Winger, Ang Zhiwei, set to join SIM Football team

SIM Football team is pleased to announce the latest addition member of the team, Ang Zhiwei, from Woodlands Wellington FC S-league team. Zhiwei is a versatile 24 years-old midfielder who previously played for Semabawang Ranger FC, Singapore Armed Forces FC (now Warriors FC), Geylang United FC (now Geylang International FC) and Singapore Under-21. He is well known for his surging runs down the flanks and Zhiwei's creative talent in creating space in the attacking half will be more than welcome by the SIM team.

Zhiwei will be doing his Bachelor Degree in this upcoming July 2013.

Former Hougang United FC and Nike 'The Chance' regional finalist, Sim Li Ming, joining SIM football team.

Former Hougnag United FC and Nike 'The Chance' regional finalist, Sim Li Ming, will be joining SIM Football team for this upcoming season 13/14. This tall and muscular 24 years-old defender will be one of the new faces joining SIM Football team when the new school term starts in July 2013. This season, Ming is playing for National Football League (NFL) Division 1 team, Singapore Cricket Club.
